Let’s say you have all the time in the world, you don’t mind a couple headaches, and you want to plan a full vacation yourself without any help from a travel agent. Sometimes, you actually don’t need a travel agent. If you need a ticket on short notice, if you’re making a very short trip and you don’t really need to make a big production out of it, etc…
However, there are a number of things that a travel agency can offer you that you won’t be able to get anywhere else. The reason for this is simple: travel agencies are offered a lot of great deals.
The reason for travel providers to offer great deals through travel agents is that it is simply in their best interests to keep these agencies in business. When the travel agencies are offering great deals, they stay in business, when the travel agencies stay in business, the travel companies’ stay in business. It’s really as simple as that.
A travel agency collects commission out of the actual cost of the tickets and reservations and so on, and does not charge an additional fee for their services. And so, you can expect a fair deal with nothing tacked on.
What you will find almost exclusively through travel agencies would be…
Customized Vacation Packages
This is the main draw, to be honest. A good travel agency will provide you with hotel, dinner reservations, a rental car and even some live entertainment in an all-inclusive package. And of course, this is all offered at a hefty discount (again, it’s the discounts that keep travellers coming back to their favorite travel agencies).
Even if you’re only saving, say, five percent here, ten percent there, twenty percent in the other place… it adds up. Say a general package would normally have you paying two hundred for a hotel, five hundred for airfare, and three hundred for a rental car. Well, twenty or so percent off of a thousand dollars is a couple hundred bucks, and that’s something of a conservative estimate. By knowing when to book and how to get great discounts, you might be surprised just how much you can save by booking a full package with a travel agency.
For corporate accounts, many travel agents will maintain a customer profile for individual travelers that are customized to the company’s travel policy to manage compliance with the corporate rules and to streamline expense reporting. The individual also benefits because they can save to their profile a preference for seats, hotel and car rental, corporate discount numbers, airline frequent flyer numbers and other pertinent information to assist with the booking process.
A Well Advised, Well Planned Trip
A good travel doesn’t just hold your tickets til you need them. A good travel agent will recommend a number of vacation options to you advising you on which hotels come recommended, places to avoid (because of crowding or crime, etc. ), and even, on certain occasions local customs. The best travel agents aren’t just travel agents, they’re also travel experts, and can help you get the best trip, and get the most out of that trip.
Many traditional bricks-and-mortar travel agencies now have full-service web sites so that you can get the best of both worlds: convenience of self-serve online booking with the benefit of walking into the office or talking to a real person on the phone when you need it. Each trip is unique and there are times when you may want to sit face to face with a knowledgeable travel consultant (like when you are planning you’re once-in-a-lifetime dream vacation). For the standard weekend or business overnight, you may want the ease of online ordering.
Exclusive Reservations
Not always, but sometimes, a travel agent can actually score you discount tickets for sold out live shows, famous restaurants, and exclusive resorts, which may have been all but impenetrable were you to just show up with a suit and tie and ask to be let in. It sounds snooty, but some resorts don’t even accept unsolicited telephone calls. A travel agent may serve as your foot in the door for the most exclusive of exclusive destinations. Plus, getting tickets or reservations at an exclusive spot at a discounted price; that’s nothing to complain about, either.
The main thing about going through a travel agency is that they make everything a lot easier, and sometimes, they make things that seemed impossible into something that becomes completely accessible and well within your means. The very best travel agencies should dazzle you with their near magical ability to produce great deals seemingly from thin air. Of course, more realistically, you can expect them to save you a lot of money and get you where you want to go!

MICHAEL WEBSTER: INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER Oct 16, 2008 2:00 PM PDT
The new travel alert only updates security information for U. S. citizens traveling and living in Mexico. It replaces the Travel Alert for Mexico dated April 14, 2008, and expires on April 14, 2009. However it does not up-grade the travel alert to higher status as many believe it should. If the conditions that prevail in Mexico today was happening anywhere else in the world the highest travel alert would have already been issued. I reported last April by asking the questions “why the U. S. Government has not issued a new travel warning or even an up-grade on its existing alert? Now the U. S has up-graded again.
The question still is why not raise the alert to a warning status and protect Americans and warn them to not travel to Mexico. At least until some or all the violence stops and it is safe again to travel in Mexico. Many travelers believe if this same thing was happening in any other country there would be a warning not to travel issued. Why not Mexico? That is the question why not? Mexico is now one of the most dangerous countries in the world. And it is our neighbor to the south with a population of over 100 million people. Even the U. S. Military ban its personal from visiting Mexico because of the increasing violence there.
U. S. Army posts along or near the U. S. Mexican border according to officials, say they’ve discontinued issuing passes to soldiers who want to travel across the border to Mexico. “If it’s not safe for U. S. Soldiers, than it is unsafe for other Americans. Said, John Lutes, who was born in El Paso and served in the military. The new travel alert up-date says “that while millions of U. S. Citizens safely visit Mexico each year, including thousands who cross the land border every day for study, tourism or business, increased levels of violence make it imperative that travelers understand the risks of travel to Mexico, how best to avoid dangerous situations, and whom to contact if one is a victim of crime. Common-sense precautions, such as visiting only legitimate business and tourist areas, avoiding areas where prostitution and drug dealing might occur, and exercising prudence in where one visits during the evening hours and at night, can help ensure that travel to Mexico is safe and enjoyable. “Violence along the U. S. – Mexico border is increasing Mexican drug cartels are engaged in an increasingly violent fight for control of narcotics trafficking routes along the U. S. – Mexico border in an apparent response to the Government of Mexico’s initiatives to crack down on narco-trafficking organizations. In order to combat violence, the government of Mexico has deployed over 45,000 military troops in various parts of the country. These Mexican troops are manning road blocks and check points all over the country. The U. S. tells citizens they should cooperate fully with official checkpoints when traveling on Mexican highways. The problem with that is bandits and other criminals are also setting up road blocks and so called check points through out Mexico and are wearing full or partial police or military uniforms and are using vehicles that resemble police or military vehicles, so how is someone even a national much less an American tell which is which.
That is the problem you can’t. And that is one reason Americans should avoid Mexico. The Bureau of Consular Affairs says “Violent criminal activity fueled by a war between criminal organizations struggling for control of the lucrative narcotics trade continues along the U. S. -Mexico border. Attacks are aimed primarily at members of drug trafficking organizations, Mexican police forces, criminal justice officials, and journalists. However, foreign visitors and residents, including Americans, have been among the victims of homicides and kidnappings in the border region. Americans in Mexico are falling victim to armed robberies and carjackings. This new type of Mexican Violence has increased in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez. Dozens of U. S. citizens have been kidnapped, held hostage and killed by their captors in Mexico and many cases remain unsolved. Moreover, new cases of disappearances and kidnap-for-ransom continue to be reported. From Brownsville Texas to San Diego California the State Department has alerted Americans of the dangers of crossing the border. Google or click on: Why not a Warning for Mexico travel or at least an up-grade to the existing alert?
In other cases Mexican cartels through their enforcers of Mexican and American gangs order smaller American gangs to kidnap and in some cases murder Americans. “U. S. citizens should be aware of the risk posed by the deteriorating security situation, along the border” said a statement issued in Mexico City and Washington. “Violent criminal activity, including murder and kidnapping, in Mexico’s northern border region has increased. ” New cases of disappearances and kidnap-for-ransom continue to be reported. No one can be considered immune from kidnapping on the basis of occupation, nationality, or other factors. Criminals have been known to follow and harass U. S. citizens traveling in their vehicles including motors homes and travel trailers, particularly in border areas including Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, Reynosa, Juarez, Mexicali, Tijuana and most all border towns.
Dozens of U. S. citizens were kidnapped and/or murdered in Tijuana in 2007. Google or click on: Americans Being Kidnapped, Held and killed in Mexico The new as the old alert goes on to say “Recent Mexican army and police force conflicts with heavily-armed narcotics cartels have escalated to levels equivalent to military small-unit combat and have included use of machine guns and fragmentation grenades. Confrontations have taken place in numerous towns and cities in northern Mexico, including Tijuana in the Mexican state of Baja California, and Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez in the state of Chihuahua. The situation in northern Mexico remains very fluid; the location and timing of future armed engagements there cannot be predicted”. Public shootouts have occurred during daylight hours near shopping areas in many Mexican border towns. Over 5,000 people have been murdered in Mexico so far this year. That figure is more than has been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. The new alert goes on to report that a number of areas along the border are experiencing rapid growth in the rates of many types of crime. More than 1,600 cars were reportedly stolen in Ciudad Juarez in the month of July 2008, and bank robberies there are up dramatically. Rates for robberies, homicides, petty thefts, and carjackings have all increased over the last year across Mexico generally, with notable spikes in Tijuana and northern Baja California. Cuidad Juarez, Tijuana, Palomas and Nogales are among the cities which have recently experienced public shootouts during daylight hours in shopping centers and other public venues.
Criminals have followed and harassed U. S. citizens traveling in their vehicles in border areas including Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, Tijuana, and along Route 15 between Nogales and Hermosillo. A very dangerous situation is playing out in Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana and other Mexican border towns and has become a special concern for U. S. citizens. A recent series of muggings near the U. S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez has targeted applicants for U. S. visas. Visa and other service seekers visiting the Consulate are encouraged to not carry cash and to make provisions to pay for those services with something other than cash. Mexican authorities are reporting that more than 1,000 people have been killed in Ciudad Juarez this year alone.
U. S. citizens should pay close attention to their surroundings while traveling in Ciudad Juarez, avoid isolated locations during late night and early morning hours, and remain alert to news reports. U. S. citizens are urged to be alert to safety and security concerns when visiting the border region. Criminals are armed with a wide array of sophisticated weapons. In some cases, assailants have worn full or partial police or military uniforms and have used vehicles that resemble police vehicles. While the largest increase in violence has occurred near the U. S. border, U. S. citizens traveling elsewhere in Mexico should also exercise caution in unfamiliar areas and be aware of their surroundings at all times. Mexican and foreign bystanders have been injured or killed in some violent attacks, demonstrating the heightened risk in public places. In recent years, dozens of U. S. citizens have been kidnapped across Mexico and many cases remain unresolved.
U. S. citizens who believe they are being targeted for kidnapping or other crimes should notify Mexican officials and the nearest American consulate or the Embassy as soon as possible. U. S. citizens should make every attempt to travel on main roads during daylight hours, particularly the toll (“cuota”) roads, which are generally more secure. U. S. citizens are encouraged to stay in well-known tourist destinations and tourist areas of the cities with more adequate security, and provide an itinerary to a friend or family member not traveling with them. U. S. citizens should avoid traveling alone, and should carry a GSM-enabled cell phone that functions internationally. Refrain from displaying expensive-looking jewelry, large amounts of money, or other valuable items. Criminals have followed and harassed U. S. citizens traveling in their vehicles, particularly in border areas including Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, Juarez and Tijuana. Though State Department officials updated the travel alert for Mexico, they did not upgrade it to a more serious “travel warning,” which is reserved for long-term conditions, officials said. Even though many Mexican cities on the U. S. Border and elsewhere in Mexico are under siege, the question is why not. Mexico is now one of the most dangerous countries in the world. And it is our neighbor to the south with a population nearing 100 million people.
Our government admits Criminals are armed with a wide array of sophisticated weapons. In some cases, assailants have worn full or partial police or military uniforms and have used vehicles that resemble police vehicles. How are American travelers expected to be able to distinguish between the real Mexican army at the road blocks and the criminals? Americans are targeted by Mexican bandits and other Mexican criminals because they are American and are believed to have money with them”.
The State department says if you do become a victim of crime while your in Mexico and remember this is after the fact are urged to contact the consular section of the nearest U. S. consulate or Embassy for advice and assistance.
23 year old American from El Paso Kyle Mostello Belanger- Believed Missing in Juarez MexicoBorn in Tenn. 23 year old American from El Paso Kyle Mostello Belanger- believed missing in Juarez Mexico. Close friends and relatives believe he was a soldier for the El Paso Barrio Azteca gang. The real question here, was Kyle kidnapped taken to Juarez and murdered as some believe.
According to the U. S. State Department “Travel Warnings” are issued when the State Department decides, based on all relevant information, to recommend that Americans avoid travel to a certain country. Countries such as some middle eastern where avoidance of travel is recommended will have Travel Warnings as well as Country Specific Information. No such travel warning is in place for the country of Mexico.

Truth in Travel Pricing
Author: admin

None of us should be surprised at these quotes from a travel article in the TimesOnline. co. uk (Oct 2008) by Stephen Bleach:
“Massive discounts on cruises were exposed as a con last week after leading line Fred Olsen admitted it had not sold a single cruise at full price for a year. ”
A further quote from the managing director of the line, Mike Rodwell:
“the big American operators started it and the rest had to follow. ”
Another surprise. On the same laptop page as this excellent article were three Google ads offering:
“Cruise Deals. Search The Top Online Cruise Deals. Read Reviews & Book Online Today. ” Followed by:
“Cruise Discounts 75% Off, All cruise lines, all destinations. ” And another:
“Huge Alaska Cruise Sale, Free Upgrades, Exclusive Deals & More with Guaranteed Lowest Prices!”
The travel operators behind these advertisements must think the travelling public is naive or even stupid but they would probably not use them if they did not work.
Also, these Google ads were run against a very negative, but truthful article about misleading advertising for cruises.
The travelling public continues to be treated with disdain by travel operators and advertising companies, not only by cruise lines and airlines but by all types of travel suppliers. What could be more misleading and false advertising than an airline advertising their fares in headlines that shout out:
“$49. one-way to Smithville” IN LARGE PRINT, and then:
‘based on return purchase, plus all taxes, surcharges for fuel, surcharges for security, checked baggage is extra, seat selection fees, and on and on and on. ” And by the way, have fuel surcharges been reduced enough?
Not only cruise prices and airfares but also consider hotel pricing that often requires much investigation as regards the offered discounts:
“75% off! But off of what? A rack-rate that is rarely charged?
And, why can you often get cheaper rooms at an online reservation office than at the hotel front desk even when you are in their lobby and ready to book?
Next in line for pricing questions could be the packaged holiday market. How many of these are sold at the brochure price? Or, as with the above cruise line, are packaged tour operators simply following the lead of others?
Not only is the public being mislead by questionable advertising and pricing practices but once captured by a cruise line, airline or packaged resort operator they can be open to additional gouging whilst onboard the ship, aircraft or resort.
Apart from the onboard costs of alcoholic drinks which should be at duty-free prices (i. e. cheaper than onshore). Extras, such as shore excursions can also be more expensive when purchased onboard rather than ashore or even pre-departure using the internet. Similarly with resorts that have onsite booking agencies for off-resort activities. The prices are often cheaper when purchased directly from the operators or again at pre-departure directly over the internet. Airlines however, who are charging for all sorts of basic amenities from blankets, pillows, soft drinks and soon even water may not be free, have a more captive audience (the movie, ConAir comes to mind) and will continue to be the most reviled part of the travel experience.
There is hope for the future but so far only in Europe. In 2009 new rules for advertising standards will come into effect offering more protection for travellers. We must hope that these new rules will eventually spread to the rest of the world with further improvements to protect consumers worldwide.
In the travel industry. Where has the originality and creativity gone? Where are the leaders? Where has “lead, follow or get out of my way” gone? Only the followers know.
Another aspect of travel pricing is when consumers want to handle their own travel arrangements directly with the operators of hotels, lodges, tours and transportation. The pricing should reflect the fact that the products are being purchased directly from the source and not at the retail level. In other words, reduce the price by the commission that would have been paid to an agent, broker or retailer and give the traveller a direct booking discount. This action could encourage more travellers to make their own direct bookings, leading to more business and a competitive edge for the operator.
Of course, the traditional distribution channels have to be protected as many consumers require help and assistance and as yet not everyone has or wants the internet.
Travel providers do not normally show different prices on their websites as this could lead to potential clients seeking advice at the retail level and then booking directly with the operator to get a discounted price. It is unfair for retailers to lose their commissions when they have performed services for their travel-trade clients.
Consumers on the other hand, if they do not need expert advice or booking services, should have the opportunity to go directly to the source and get a direct booking discount.
Originality and creativity has returned to the travel industry. Travel providers are now able to offer travellers a direct booking discount service by using a new travel voucher system that has been introduced. With a website and the internet they can now reach out to the global travel community, not just travel agency or local traffic.
Any travel operator, from the smallest b&b to the grandest lodge or luxury tour, can offer this service. The voucher values represent the normal commissions that would have been paid out to sellers of travel but now will be given back to the buyers of travel. And, the discounted price does not have to show on their websites.
The service is leading with this new initiative and now wants to promote the thousands of small travel providers and other businesses around the world that do not use selling agents and therefore do not have sales commissions built into their pricing. The operators of the voucher service suggest that lower yields with higher volumes of direct booking discount travellers may achieve better overall returns.
Members of a new online travel club can get these vouchers free with membership and non-members can purchase them at deep discounts to their face values at another similar website. At present there are vouchers covering travel in over seventy countries from b&b’s to adventure and luxury tours.
The Club operators say that they do not charge businesses for listing their services as long as they participate in issuing vouchers enabling members to get direct booking discounts.
There are many directories linking the world of travel to the world of travellers but this new concept offers a directory with discounts on every travel selection if you are willing and able to handle your own travel bookings and arrangements directly with the listed operators.
The club operators are aware that many travel operators will continue to adhere to the business style of Mike Rodwell of Fred Olsen Lines and will continue to follow rather than lead and it is unlikely that they will ever be represented by this travel club. They are also aware that there are enough independent travel businesses that will find that their new business style of expanded selections and direct booking discounts is a better way of offering travel directly to consumers around the world.

Exclusive Travel Agency Vacations
Author: admin

With the flurry of online travel booking and Do-It-Yourself travel sites, many people have lost sight of the fact that a trip can easily be booked through a travel agency – and that there are benefits which can only be found through one of these agencies. It is important to think about the various deals that you can find only through a travel agency before you begin to plan your trip. Before you start to try to do it yourself, and before you spend too much money with online travel sites or Do-It-Yourself travel sites, think about using a travel agent.
The Best Deals
Many people believe that the best deals can be found by doing the booking and the arranging of their trip on their own. However, they are forgetting that this technique can lead additional fees and taxes which travel agents will not add. They also forget that travel agents are real people, which means that you can talk to him or her about your exact needs for the trip, including any special needs you have, and they can make sure that you are taken care of. Even if a particular company advertises the best deals, when it comes right down to it, the best deals are only found through travel agencies.
Package Deals
Even though many travel companies claim that they can get you package deals – such as airfare, hotel, and car rental, in reality most of these companies are just finding deals on these three things and then sticking them together in a package that looks appealing but may not be a “deal” at all. On the other hand, travel agencies really do have contracts or agreements in place where they work with corporations that are mutually beneficial. They can actually get you a better deal on car rentals if you stay in a certain hotel, or get a better deal on airfare if you are renting a car from the right company. These are not just individual purchases stuck together, like on the travel sites. They are actual connections which are made with the travel agency through various companies for flights, car rentals, and hotels. Therefore, when you do book a package deal with a travel agency, you are getting a better deal than you would get doing it yourself.
Tour Deals
Another thing that Do-It-Yourself travel does not afford you is the benefit of getting a tour deal that a travel agency could give you. If you want to travel abroad, for example, where your vacation may cross borders into several different countries, you might have considered planning your own tour. However, if you do this, you have to worry about each individual thing – travel from one place to another, lodging, and sightseeing in each area. If you do not want to worry about all of these details, you probably want to look for a good tour deal. The only place to get a good tour deal is through a travel agency. Through a travel agency, you will be able to book all of the components of your vacation. You can tell them where you would like to go, and then the travel agency can take care of all of your arrangements. They will book your flights, your travel between each place you are going, and all of the things that you will do when you are in each town or country. They will also reserve your hotels, all of the other types of accommodations you are going to need, and take care of any other things that come up.
Group Tours
It can be really hard to book your own travels online or through each individual company by yourself. However, it is harder if you are trying to book flights, accommodations, and sight seeing packages for lots of people. Travel agencies are still the only places that can help you book group tour deals. The agencies have contracts with bus companies, hotels, restaurants, and airlines so that they can truly get you better deals when it comes to travel for a lot of different people. You can talk to a travel agent about your specific needs when it comes to group travel, and they will take care of the entire booking process for you. This means that you can book a tour for your family, your company, or your fundraiser quite easily through a travel agency.
It does not matter which type of trip you are booking or where you would like to go. A travel agency can make sure that you get there quickly and easily, as well as affordably!

Canadian Travel Insurance: Why You Need It
Author: admin

Imagine going on your dream vacation. As you head out to see the sights with you family, you realize that you aren’t feeling well and need to see a doctor immediately. If you have purchased Canadian travel insurance, you are able to save yourself some additional anxiety in this difficult situation.
What is Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance provides protection for the traveler in the event of medical emergencies, loss of possessions, unavoidable changes in plans, and other unfortunate situations. Basically, travel insurance buys you peace of mind when you need it most.
Purchasing Canadian travel insurance is basically the same as a financial contract. The travel insurance provider is legally bound to provide insurance for the specific events mentioned in your contract.
Despite the fact that there is a considerable risk involved in traveling without travel insurance, Canada and other countries do not legally require you to obtain travel insurance before setting off on your trip. Travel insurance is a choice.
Travel insurance has helped many people make the best of difficult situations. Knowing you have purchased Canadian travel insurance can make it easier to enjoy yourself at your chosen destination.
Travel Insurance Helps with Medical Emergencies
Canadian travel insurance can offer financial protection to people within Canada as well as those traveling to other countries and exotic destinations. Medical travel insurance helps pay for medical bills incurred when someone is traveling.
Many people report that obtaining travel insurance helped ease the stress when a medical emergency struck their family abroad. There is already so much anxiety involved in medical emergencies, especially those occurring in unfamiliar places, that having travel insurance can be extremely helpful.
Travel Insurance Can Help When a Trip is Cancelled
Another benefit of travel insurance is that it provides much-needed peace of mind when a trip must be cancelled. If a trip is cancelled for a reason listed in the travel insurance coverage, the cost of the trip is refunded.
Canadian travelers who have purchased travel insurance in Canada say that while they were disappointed not to be able to go on their trip, they felt very relieved to know that they were not going to be financially responsible for paying for the travel arrangements they had made.
Travel Insurance Can Pay for Lost Bags
In today’s world of airline transfers and complicated baggage delivery systems, travel can be hard on baggage. Travel insurance for lost or damaged baggage can help replace the contents of luggage in the even that it is lost, damaged, or stolen.
People who have used their Canadian travel insurance policies to claim lost baggage say that it was a fast and easy process. Airlines and other transportation companies are not necessarily liable for replacing the full contents of lost baggage, so travel insurance is a must.
Travel Insurance Can Help With Rental Cars
Damage or theft of a rental car can ruin a trip, especially if the person traveling is not fully insured. Purchasing Canadian travel insurance can help make sure travelers are not liable for the cost of damaged or stolen rental cars.
It’s often difficult to feel confident driving a rental car in the first place. Many people find that they feel less familiar with the handling of rental cars, possibly increasing the likelihood of an accident. Rental car insurance is extremely expensive when purchased from the rental car company, so many travelers find it more economical to purchase Canadian travel insurance to cover their rental cars.

The Tao Philosophy of Independent Travel
Author: admin

What is an Independent Traveler?
There is a certain philosophy that the independent traveler adheres to. While the tourist looks for comfort, convenience and a home away from home, the independent traveler prefers to become part of the culture as much as possible. The independent traveler likes to leave home behind.
There are many different terms in use to describe independent travelers. A hobo, in this sense, is someone without a home, spends very little or no money, and travels to work. A backpacker is a traveler on a budget who’s luggage is usually a single backpack. A flashpacker has more money to spend than the hobo or backpacker, but still prefers the lifestyle of independent travel.
Regardless of the term used, independent travelers share a common philosophy.
The Independent Traveler:
1) Does Not Like to be Pampered
Independent travelers have a distaste for typical, over-priced packaged tours. They avoid rigid itineraries, instead preferring to plan their own trips. Rather than being pampered during their travels, independents feel more comfortable on their own. When one is told when to eat, where to go and how long to stay, it is like putting a noose on experience. Independents rely on their own judgment, they do not let others think for them or tell them what to do.
2) Spends Less Money to Enjoy More
The less money an independent traveler spends, the more he or she enjoys the trip. Big spending tends to isolate the traveler from new, vibrant experience. Rather than getting caught up in the consumer trap of buying expensive souvenirs, paying for useless accessories and the “convenience” of doing what you are told to do on a tour, independents do more of the things they enjoy doing, rather than buying things that distracts one from the experience of the trip.
3) Travels Light
Traveling with lots of luggage is a huge inconvenience that costs the traveler time, money and worry. All those things that tourists take with them on vacation actually impedes the trip, rather than enhance it. One of the purposes of travel is to enjoy what is there, not what is at home. Traveling light provides more freedom for the traveler and instead of baby-sitting all those “important” material possessions one can focus on experiencing life.
4) Becomes Immersed in the Culture
It is very difficult, even impossible, to experience a new place or culture when you are sheltered in a tour bus, or in a fancy hotel. The only way to maximize the experience of new things is to step into them and participate with an open mind. One travels to a foreign place to experience the foreign. Yet, too often the tourist erects shields to become isolated from the foreign experiences sought. The independent traveler does not fear what is foreign, but seeks it out and slowly, courteously, attempts to let it become a part of his or her life.
5) Goes with the Flow
Worry kills enjoyment. Time schedules, tasks and material things contribute to worry. When worry pounds away in your head you cannot truly experience what is there. It is easy to see with the eyes, it is an art to understand with the mind. The independent traveler knows that not everything always goes to plan; a flight might be cancelled, a bus could be delayed, the weather may not be ideal. With a tight schedule these things could ruin a trip. With flexibility one can actually learn to enjoy them. Sometimes things happen for a reason. Sometimes you can find without seeking.
6) Believes that a Vacation is an Education
When one continues to do the same things one has always done, he or she will continue to receive the same results. Travel to the independent is more than a vacation, it is an education. Independent travel allows the individual to try new things, to see beyond one’s mental and cultural background, to experience, to learn and to grow. When one travels with an open mind learning becomes a delightful activity. Acquaintances learn from the traveler, the traveler learns from them, and therefore learns more about his or her person than otherwise would be possible. Learning extends beyond the four walls of a classroom to include the world.
7) Enjoys Freedom
To achieve freedom one does not need more. One needs less. The independent traveler has very few time constraints, material possessions, itineraries and lists of things to do. The independent is free to take advantage of any opportunity that comes along. The independent may stay up late to watch the sun set, wander into an isolated village, discover healing rituals of a disappearing culture, enjoy extra time with old friends and accept the gracious hospitality of new ones. The independent traveler understands that baggage should be left at home.
Leave things behind to take the world with you.

There are several different types of travel insurance that you can choose when you are looking to protect your travel investment. Two of the most well known travel insurance companies are Access America and Travelsafe Travel Insurance. If you are planning on traveling in the United States or abroad, it is a good idea to get travel insurance to cover the cost of your trip in case something goes wrong.
Both Access America and Travelsafe Travel Insurance offer travel insurance for someone who is traveling in a variety of different methods – by air, sea or train. Access America is more geared towards domestic travel, although it is also used by those who are traveling out of the country. Many of the people who get Access America travel are getting it because they are going on a cruise.
Cruising along with Access America and Travelsafe Travel
Cruises are the number one reason why people get travel insurance. Cruises are subject to many mishaps, especially when due to the weather. One of the best aspects about choosing Access America as your travel insurance is that they will insure a cruise. There are exclusions when it comes to insuring the cruise during hurricane season, but you can still get some type of insurance. This means that if your cruise is cancelled due to a hurricane or other act of nature, you can recoup some of your money.
Medical Coverage with Access America and Travelsafe Travel
Travelsafe Travel Insurance is a good option when you are leaving the country and are worried about medical coverage. Medical coverage is something that many people are concerned about when they visit another country that may have foods that are different than what they are used to in the United States.
Many people who are older also worry about medical coverage when they are out of the country. By getting a policy with Travelsafe Travel Insurance, these worries are alleviated. You can get the coverage that you need when you choose Travelsafe and chose one of their package deals.
Looking for Package Deals?
Both Travelsafe Travel Insurance and Access America offer package deals for travel that you can get for yourself by going online. Both of these insurance companies also procure travel agents when it comes to selling the travel insurance. You can get the travel insurance through the agency itself when you are booking your own trip, or you can purchase the travel insurance when you book a trip through a travel agency.
If you are looking for a good deal on cruise travel insurance, you may want to take a look at the packages that are available through Access America. They have reasonable cruise insurance packages that will even cover acts of nature.
If you are worried about getting sick when you travel outside of the country, you may want to check out Travelsafe Travel Insurance as a form of travel insurance. It is important to note that both of these travel insurance companies offer insurance for cruises, medical attention in other counties, lost baggage and other problems that may occur and cause you a loss when you are on vacation. If you are spending money on a trip, you will want to back it up by making sure that you have travel insurance.
Getting Great Deals Through Your Travel Agency
Author: admin

We could all use a break from the monotony of our jobs and the humdrum of domestic chores, and the first thing that comes to mind is often a vacation. As many health experts say, taking a vacation every now and then is indispensable to good health.
The next thing we do is look for great travel deals through a travel agency. This is important because if taking a vacation means emptying out our wallets and bank accounts, what good can that do to our financial health? In dire economic times, topmost in our minds is to get the best deals, which are typically possible only from travel agencies.
Many people think that getting travel deals on the Internet is the way to go. The reason for this is that there is very little overhead involved. Online ticket sellers don’t need a physical location; all they need is a web site and a marketing campaign. A recently released white paper says, however, that people who book with travel agents receive discounts of as much as $56. 00 more than when booking with the Internet or with an airline.
Great Deals through Your Travel Agency: Tips
Here are some things to bear in mind when you want to obtain great deals through a travel agency.
1. Remember the concepts of off-peak and peak – these concepts relate to travel time periods. For instance, peak travel periods would be Thanksgiving, Christmas, graduation and Easter. You probably still might get a great deal, but chances are very slim. Peak season equates with greater demand for tickets and more crowded airports, not to speak of higher fuel costs. You can obtain great deals if you schedule your trip during off peak travel periods.
2. Air consolidators – when you hear someone say, “my ticket is a consolidated ticket”, that means they are travelling to an overseas destination like Asia or Europe and their travel agents sold them consolidated tickets. Agents have access to consolidated tickets because they have special and exclusive arrangements with major carriers, thanks to frequent volume purchases.
3. Wide network of providers – travel agents work on special computer systems that provide access to the world’s discounted travel packages. This is why your best bet is to deal with a travel agent when hunting for deals because agents use the most sophisticated program applications, technology and relationships to do some bargain hunting for you.
4. Group travel – just as buying in bulk would fetch a lower price at a food wholesaler, your travel agent will be pleased to seek additional discounts for you if you’re travelling in a group. If you tell your travel agent that you need tickets for a party of four or five people, the potential of obtaining great deals is higher.
5. Budget travel – ask your travel agent for a variety of ways of travelling on a tight budget. You should tell your travel agent that you are willing to take the train, stay in a youth hostel, and eat in cheaper restaurants. Numerous travel associations here and abroad cater to younger travellers who are usually on a limited budget. Your travel agent has access to a wealth of information relating to cheap accommodations and cheap dining, as well as access to discount coupons and free passes to attractions.
6. Advance booking – it used to be that the magic number was “21”; that is, booking your trip 21 days in advance, giving you a cheaper fare. Not anymore. If you’re going to London for Christmas, call your travel agent six to seven months ahead and ask her to look for the cheapest possible flight; be aware though that Christmas time can be an expensive time to travel anywhere. If you’re travelling to say Hong Kong for Chinese New Year, you’re better off booking about seven months ahead.
7. Restricted plane fare – if you’re a no-fuss traveller and you know exactly what you want, tell your travel agent. For instance you can tell your travel agent the following:
· You’re travelling on say June 21 and that’s a definite date (which means you’re not going to change the date) and you’re returning on July 31 (again no changing of dates);
· You don’t mind a circuitous route (direct flights are more expensive)
· You’re open to taking red eye flights
· You don’t mind being on stand-by
· Remember that if you do change the dates, you could be paying a penalty.
8. Retiree – if you are a retiree, tell your travel agent. Some travel agents offer hot deals to seniors and have special relationships with hotels and sightseeing tour operators that cater specifically to this age group.
9. Children – again, some travel agents can offer half fares or practically free fares for children under a certain age. Some agents will even offer the fourth ticket free if you’re travelling with four children.
10. Day of the week – it matters what day of the week you want to travel – provided these days are not close to national holidays. For instance, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturday are considered off-days.
